DUFY, Raoul. 1877-1953. Studied art at evening classes before going to the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Paris. His early work was influenced by the Impressionists and Van Gogh, but from 1905 he became interested in the work of the Fauve painters with whom he exhibited. He liked to paint gaily coloured street scenes, beaches, regattas and race meetings.
