Frank Dadd (1851-1929) – Frank Dadd, a cousin of Kate Greenaway, was born in London and studied at the Royal College of Art and the Royal Academy Schools where he was awarded a medal for life drawing. He began working as an illustrator c.1872 and specialised in magazine work, particularly boys’ adventure stories. He worked for The Illustrated London News from 1878 to 1884 and went on to join the staff of The Graphic. He exhibited occasionally at the Royal Academy between 1878 and 1912. His pictures are technically excellent, somewhat influenced by Randolph Caldecott in style, and his concern for accuracy in every detail lends his work an almost photographic realism. Dadd lived in Wallington, Surrey, and later at Teignmouth in Devon.
