Eugène de Blaas (1843-1932) was a genre painter working mainly in Italy. Born Eugene von Blaas to Austrian parents living in Italy, his father Karl (1815-1894), a portraitist and historical painter, was a professor at the Academies of Art in Rome and Venice. Eugene’s younger brother Julius was also and artist and both brothers were taught by their father at each of the two academies where he was a professor. Eugene became by far the most successful and accomplished artist in the family, he often painted scenes in Venice, and also portraits and religious paintings.
