Georges Croegaert (1848-1923) was born in Antwerp, but spent most of his life in Paris where he painted mainly portraits and genre scenes. In 1914 he exhibited ‘Le Repos du Modèle’ at the Salon des Artistes Francais. This delightful skating scene with its strong composition and bold, simple shapes, has a very unusual, almost naïve quality.
