Arthur Heyer (1872-1931) was a painter of the German School, born in 1872 in Haarhausen, Westphalia. He started his studies at the Kunstgewerbschule in Berlin. In 1896 he moved to Budapest, where he spent the rest of his life until he died in 1931. He specialised in painting animals, sometimes dogs but cats were his favourite subject. He was much sought after as an illustrator of books, and contributed to Stettenheim’s ‘Wasps’ and Schloren’s ‘Family Magazine’. Heyer exhibited in Budapest, at the Kunsthaus in Vienna and the Glass Palace in Munich.
