John MacWhirter (1839-1911) was a Scottish landscape painter. He left his home town of Edinburgh soon after being elected an Associate of the Royal Scottish Academy in 1867, and based himself in London. He specialised in tranquil scenes, and with Ruskin’s encouragement produced many fine watercolours before progressing to a style which nowadays seems rather sentimental, although it met with popularity at the time. He exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy and other London galleries over a period of about thirty years, drawing on his many varied travels in America and Europe for material.
Our standard prints are reproduced on a premium semi matt finish paper. Its micro-porous resin coating provides exceptional colour accuracy and stability
Our watercolour board has a natural white finish with a slightly structured, soft-textured surface equivalent to a traditional etching fine art paper. The surface has a special matte coating, designed for high quality fine art reproduction with giclée technology. It is an archival quality paper with great colour accuracy.
