Adrianus Eversen (1818-1897) was born in Amsterdam and was a genre painter of quiet Dutch townscapes. He studied under Cornelis de Kruyff and Cornelis Springer, becoming a member of the “Arti Amicitiae” in Amsterdam in 1863. He seems to have specialised particularly in the rendition of architecture, his small figures becoming of secondary significance as they go about their ordinary, daily business. He was especially concerned with the effects of light, using broad areas of light and shade to play on his street facades. He also painted a number of snow, canal and river scenes. He exhibited in Amsterdam from 1840 to 1885, The Hague in 1859 and 1861, and Leeuwarden in 1863 and died in Delft in 1897.
