ELSLEY, Arthur J. 1860-1952. Born in London where he lived for most of his life. At the age of sixteen he enrolled at the Royal Academy Schools. He specialized in child and animal genre scenes and thought nothing of cycling fifty miles in search of suitable picture material. There was such a great demand for his work that buyers literally queued for his paintings. ES, Jacob van. 1606-65. Born in Antwerp. His main talent lay in the painting of still life, especially fish, which he managed to reproduce with almost photographic realism.
