Artist Bio

BROWN, Sir John Alfred Arnesby. 1866-1955. Born and brought up in Nottingham, in 1889 he became a pupil of the eminent painter, Sir Hubert Herkomer, at his School of Art at Bushey in Hertfordshire. He began exhibiting at the Royal Academy in 1890 and became a member of the Academy in 1915. Brown usually painted in oils and specialized in landscapes, which frequently included cattle. He lived much of his life in Norfolk and Cornwall.
