Artist Biography

Myles Birket Foster (1825-1899) was apprenticed to Ebenezer Landells, the wood engraver and originator of Punch; after which he set up as a book illustrator. In 1859, through the influence of the Pre-Raphaelite group, he turned to painting, mainly in watercolour and is best known for pastoral scenes of his native Surrey.
