Artist Biography
Thomas Gainsborough (1727-1788) was born in Suffolk. His greatest interest lay in landscape painting, but he is best known for his superb portraits by which he made his living. He worked in Bath from 1759 and later in London, where he received numerous commissions from distinguished people of the day, including King George III.
