Artist Biography

MUGHAL MINIATURE. This style of painting was brought to India from Persia by Babur, the Turkish founder of the Mughal Dynasty. The Emperor Akbar made it a national style and although his great-grandson, Aurangzeb (1658-1707), turned against the arts, some of the best Mughal paintings were made for him. A strong narrative style evolved, attaching great importance to animals.
