‘Augusta Reynnet and her sister Mary with their donkey and goat. – A View of Elizabeth Castle, Jersey, beyond’
Walter William Ouless (1848-1933) was British portrait painter from Jersey. His father, Philip John Ouless, was a marine artist who had established a studio in St Helier, Jersey. Ouless entered the Royal Academy schools in 1865. His early work was in the field of genre painting, but John Everett Millais advised him to concentrate on portrait painting, in which field he established a successful career. He became an Associate of the Royal Academy in 1877 and a full member in 1881. In later life he turned to landscape painting.
