Of Norwegian origin, Nils Christiansen (flourished 1890-1920) is believed to have been based in England where most of his landscape painting can now be found. The fact that roe deer inhabit many different woodland areas within Europe and Asia does not really help in the location of the artist's whereabouts. Living monogamously, these deer congregate in small family groups during the winter, driving their young away in the spring.
