Artist Biography

John Absolon (1815-1895) began his career painting theatrical scenery at Covent Garden, and went on to illustrate books and paint landscape, seascape and genre subjects in both oil and watercolour. He first exhibited in 1832, aged seventeen, at the Society of British Artists and, after a spell in Paris, became a member of the New Watercolour Society in 1830, and later its Treasurer.
