Cornelis de Vos (1585-1651) was an artist of some standing in the 17th Century school of Flemish portrait painting. His work has sometimes been confused with that of Rubens, with whom he worked occasionally, and also with that of his friend Van Dyck, who painted his portrait. In 1608 de Vos became Master of the Guild of Antwerp, and its Dean in 1619-20. He made several portraits of his family, and this picture of his daughter exemplifies the sympathy with which he painted his young subjects.
