Artist Biography

Berthe Morisot (French - 1841-1895) was taught by Corot from 1862-68 but her chief artistic association was with Edouard Manet whose pupil she became in 1868. It was Morisot who, in the 1870s, persuaded Manet to adopt Impressionist techniques and kept him in touch with other Impressionist painters, and in 1874 she married his younger brother, Eugene. Her pictures were regularly exhibited at the Salon and she exhibited in all but one of the Impressionist exhibitions.
