Artist Biography

Pierre François Eugène Giraud (1806-1881) was born in Paris and entered the Ecole des Beaux Arts in 1921. His distinguished career began when he won the Prix de Rome in 1826, later gaining two medals for his exhibits in the Paris Salon. He was also awarded the Legion of Honour in 1851. He painted and engraved contemporary and historical genre scenes, as well as working as a portraitist and caricaturist. He died in Paris in 1881.
