William Merritt Chase (1849-1916) was a leading member of the American Impressionist movement. Born in Indiana, he studied art in New York before travelling to Germany and entering the Royal Academy in Munich. He returned to America in 1878, when he began teaching and joined the newly-formed Society of American Artists. His style is enormously varied, but he considered himself a realist and adopted the plein-air techniques of his contemporaries in Europe. He later established the tradition for summer painting in the open-air which changed the course of American art from 1900 onwards.
Our standard prints are reproduced on a premium semi matt finish paper. Its micro-porous resin coating provides exceptional colour accuracy and stability
Our watercolour board has a natural white finish with a slightly structured, soft-textured surface equivalent to a traditional etching fine art paper. The surface has a special matte coating, designed for high quality fine art reproduction with giclée technology. It is an archival quality paper with great colour accuracy.
